If you are considering trading as a business in Thailand, then you must know that an import/export license is a must. Basically, it is a smart card for the traders. For the license you will need the following documents;

  1. Company affidavit of your company in Thailand,
  2. Copy of corporate book bank,
  3. Original passport/ Thai ID card of the authorized director,
  4. VAT registration certificate of the company,

Please note that the import of some products such as pharmaceutical products needs a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorization from the Ministry of Health. Similarly, most products will need clearance from the Customs Department.

There are many such products that are subjected to control from other laws, including;

  • Minerals trading would require you to have appropriate authorization as the import of more than 2kgs of tungsten oxide, metallic tin, and tin ores are prohibited;
  • Items like antiques and works of arts cannot be shipped unless you have authorization from the Director-General of Fine Arts;
  • Items like explosives, fireworks, ammunition, and firearms are prohibited from purchase, products, or even import unless you have the appropriate license of the Ministry of the Interior.

As for export licenses, it has been established for products like tobacco leaves, trees, and seeds. Also, rice and sugar needs export licenses as stipulated under the Export Standards Act. To know more you can write to us at [email protected].

In order to obtain import/export license in Thailand, these 5 steps must be followed;

  1. Fill the official declaration form (Custom Form 99 or 99/1);
  2. Provide the official documents as aforesaid and a few more depending on individual case;
  3. Submit customs statement, including the Declaration of Importation along with the supporting documents;
  4. You will need to pay some import duties and taxes;
  5. Inspection and release of the customs cargo.
