Marriage registration in Thailand would be possible by choosing anyone from the below-mentioned methods;
Method #1
Register their marriage with their respective Embassy in Thailand (the Embassy’s rules & regulations and procedure apply).
The procedure will be as regulated by you and your fiancé’s respective Embassies on how to formally record and register your marriage with your governmental representative (the Embassy) in Thailand. You need to check directly with you and your fiancé’s Embassy for respective specific requirements.
Method #2
Register their marriage with the Thai governmental office (i.e. District Office).
To register your marriage with the Thai government official, each foreigner partner must contact their respective Embassy/Consulate in Thailand in obtaining a Declaration of Freedom to Marry (some may refer to this as Affirmation of Freedom to Marry). As each party will need to obtain this from their embassy, it is recommended to also get your passport certified by the embassy. The reason to support this recommendation, as some of the District may request for this passport certification (officer’s discretion).
This declaration (and the certified passport) will need to be translated into the Thai language, which further needs to be certified by Thailand’s Consular Section (Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
Once you have completed the certification of documents (the declaration, the passport, and the translations) with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, you can then take these documents over to the District Office for scheduling the Marriage of Registration. For your information, some District office may take 1-2 weeks to notify you of the scheduled date while some would take months.
During the marriage registration at the District Office, you will need two witnesses (Thai national) as well as an Interpreter for the occasion.
If in case you choose the second method we will need to know the following;
- Where (which District Office) do you intend or prefer to register your marriage?
- Do you have 2 Thai nationals to be your witness?
- Do you have an interpreter to verbally translate the statement prepare by the District office at the district office?
- Will you require our services and assistance with the Marriage Registration at the District Office?
- Do you have any prenuptial agreement in place?
Kindly furnish with the details and we will assist you further.
